Upskill or progress to further study
A Postgraduate Certificate in Designed Environments (PGCertDE) gives you a higher level of understanding and specialist skills in an area of architecture and the built environment.
A PGCertDE will help you develop a specialisation to add to your undergraduate study, or progress onto postgraduate study such as a Master’s. If you’re already working in the industry, the PGCertDE can also give you up-to-date professional development as at an advanced, postgraduate level.
You can complete the PGCertDE as a standalone qualification, or extend your study to graduate with the Postgraduate Diploma in Designed Environments (PGDipDE) or a Master’s.
Who can study for this qualification
The PGCertDE is open to students with a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Studies (BAS) or equivalent degree. You may also be able to study a PGCertDE if you have relevant practical, professional, or scholarly experience.
The PGCertDE will suit you if:
- you want to add some advanced courses to your undergraduate study to specialise in that subject
- you work in the industry and want to study the latest in your area or develop a specialisation at a postgraduate study level
- you’re considering a Master’s or want to study towards one in stages—the courses you complete count towards your further study and qualifications.
What you'll learn
During your PGCertDE study, you'll tailor your courses to one of the following subjects:
- Architecture
- Interior Architecture
- Landscape Architecture
- Urban and Regional Planning.
You might be able to study without focusing on one subject—this is at the discretion of the associate dean.
How you'll study
During your studies, you’ll have access to workshops, studios, and computer labs.
You’ll learn through lectures, studio sessions, seminars, laboratories, and field trips. And you’ll be encouraged to learn, design, and create through different media.
Networking is part of your study experience. You’ll have the opportunity to meet people working in the industry and take part in public lectures.
In the studio sessions, you’ll be taught with interactive lectures, one-to-one design tutorials, small group design tutorials, and informal and formal presentations.
Studying full time, you can complete the PGCertDE in one trimester.
