Choose your study path
The University offers study paths in Information Systems at graduate and postgraduate levels.
Change direction to study Information Systems
Deepen your expertise in the Information Systems field and improve your career prospects with our practical, industry-relevant qualifications.
Graduate Certificate in Commerce
The one-trimester (full time) GCertCom is designed for graduates without a commerce background who need an introduction to information systems. It’s a good choice if you’re a working professional looking to upskill or move your career towards IT management, systems analysis, or data analytics.
Graduate Diploma in Commerce
A 1-year (full time) qualification, the GDipCom is a more comprehensive qualification than the GCertCom. It could suit you if you have an undergraduate degree in another area and want a thorough grounding in Information Systems to boost your career. It’s also a good pathway into studying Information Systems at Master’s level.
Specialise in Information Systems at postgraduate level
Bachelor of Commerce with Honours
By adding an Honours year to your BCom, you can deepen your knowledge and expertise in a speciality area of Information Systems and improve your career prospects. You’ll also refine your research, writing, and analytical skills.
Postgraduate Certificate in Commerce
This one-trimester (full time) qualification introduces you to advanced concepts in business information systems and digital technologies. You might take the PGCertCom to fill gaps in your information systems knowledge, or to shift into roles that combine business with IT.
Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce
This two-trimester (full time) qualification is more comprehensive than a PGCertCom. It’s useful if you want advanced knowledge and expertise in information systems in a commercial context and you’re aiming for senior information-systems roles. It’s also good preparation for study at Master’s level.
Carry out advanced research in Information Systems
Master of Commerce
The MCom builds on your knowledge in how information systems, technology, organisations and people intersect, particularly in a commercial context. It suits you if you’re aiming for senior roles or want to move into research or doctoral study in Information Systems.
Doctor of Philosophy
As a PhD candidate, you’ll carry out original, sustained research in Information Systems, mentored by an academic supervisor.
Flexible study
Study for your Information Systems qualifications part time or full time (except the MBusAn, which you can only study full time).
You can do your Information Systems degree mostly online or mostly on campus, in Wellington or Auckland.
If you’re in the IT industry and want to move into management roles, you can study Information Systems in Wellington or Auckland. Your lectures will be in the evening or on weekends, so your workday won’t be interrupted.
If you want to be a business analyst
If you’re already working but now want a career in business analysis, the University offers the four-trimester Master of Professional Business Analysis.
This specialised four-trimester degree is designed for professionals with some business experience (such as in commerce, science, or humanities) but who lack formal training in business systems analysis or digital transformation.
