Media Design at Victoria University of Wellington

Choose your study path

You can do Media Design as your major subject in a three-year Bachelor of Design Innovation (BDI). There are compulsory courses you need to take in your first year for a major in Animation and Visual Effects.

Our BDI gives you many ways to structure your study and to combine Media Design with other subjects. If you’re studying for a double degree or conjoint degree, Media Design goes well with Arts or Commerce.

Most Media Design graduates who continue on to study a Master’s choose the Master of Design Innovation (MDI). It has a research and future focus that complement Media Design.

This gives you one extra year of study to do your own investigations in an area of interest. For example, you might investigate how technology is applied to another area—such as VR and healthcare.

You could also continue your study with the:

  • Master of User Experience Design
  • Master of Design Technology
  • Master of Design.

After a Master’s you might consider continuing study with a PhD.
