Research themes
Te Whiri Kawe—Centre of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence offer areas of expertise across several technology themes.
-
Modelling and statistical learning
We use intelligent modelling and statistical learning to build mathematical, statistical and logic models between output and input variables.
-
Evolutionary and multi-objective learning
We have the largest AI and machine learning research team in the southern hemisphere, with a focus on evolutionary learning and optimisation.
-
Deep learning and transfer learning
We work across a number of deep learning paradigms. We're leaders in the automated design of deep learning models, including deep neural networks.
-
Image, text, signal, and language processing
Our major areas of research include computer vision, image analysis and pattern recognition, and text mining and natural language processing.
-
Scheduling and combinational optimisation
Scheduling and combinatorial optimisation is an important area in modern and high-value manufacturing, logistics, and supply chain management.
-
Interpretable artificial intelligence and machine learning
In some applications, such as in medicine and the law, having an AIML model that can be explained is as important as the result that it arrives at.
