Take your midwifery skills to the next level
Whether you work in primary, secondary or tertiary care, at management level or within the community—we’ll help you tailor a course of study to match your goals. Created in close consultation with industry experts, managers and students, you can be sure you’re studying the latest developments in midwifery.
Learn alongside fellow midwives with a variety of backgrounds and experience. Graduate with the skills and knowledge to enhance the professional care you provide and meet the demands of any situation.
Choose the study that suits you best—from postgraduate certificates and diplomas, to Master's programmes and Doctorates. You'll get one-to-one support to help you design your own personal course of study.
Choose your study path
To qualify for entry you’ll need a Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery or equivalent, and must be a registered midwife with a current practising certificate from the Midwifery Council of New Zealand.
You can extend your experience, knowledge, and skills as a midwife with a Postgraduate Certificate in Midwifery or Health. Build on your knowledge further with a Postgraduate Diploma, or go on to study for a Master’s degree. Our qualifications are ‘staircased’—meaning you can count your study from the previous step towards the next qualification.
Follow a broad leadership pathway in the Master of Health or a research route in the Master of Health Research specialising in Midwifery. If you are interested in an academic or research career, you may be able to study for a PhD, or you could study towards a professional doctorate in Midwifery.
Study while you work
Our full-time and part-time courses make it easy for you to learn while you’re working. We’ll help you integrate academic life with work and family through our flexible delivery model that allow you to learn at home and on campus.
All our postgraduate Midwifery programmes can be studied part time. In addition to self-directed study and online forums, learning takes place in block days of seminars, workshops, and guest lectures so you can fit study in with your work commitments.
Qualification support and advice
We can help you match your interests and career goals with the right course of study.
If you’re a new student, talk to a Future Student Adviser through our enquiry form.

For the research portion of your study, you’ll need a supervisor to help guide your research. Your programme coordinator will work with you to find the right person.
