Why Wellington
Make the most of our history of study and scholarship in Sociology. In 1950 we became the first university in Aotearoa to offer study in Sociology. We were also the first university to offer Gender and Sexuality Studies—then known as Women’s Studies—in 1975.
Our Sociology staff are experts on the ways people organise themselves, as well as the structures that define human interaction.
Choose your study path
You can do Gender and Sexuality Studies as your minor or major subject in a three-year Bachelor of Arts (BA).
Many students broaden their expertise by pairing Gender and Sexuality Studies with subjects such as Anthropology, Criminology, Geography, and Sociology.
If you’re studying for a double degree or conjoint degree, Gender and Sexuality Studies goes well with Commerce, Law, or Science.
Our BA gives you many ways to structure your study and combine Gender and Sexuality Studies with other subjects.
