Help shape the future of our tourism

Tourism Management study helps you build the knowledge and skills to join the fast-growing tourism industry. Help shape the future of tourism in Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas.

You’ll study how this complex industry works: how tourism businesses operate, the behaviour of visitors, and their impacts on the destinations they visit.

You’ll learn to plan and design tourist experiences that attract visitors while protecting our environment and supporting local communities. Throughout your studies, you’ll focus on sustainable planning and development.

Choose your study path

You can study Tourism Management as a major subject in your BCom. You can also combine Tourism Management with another major (a double major)—such as Marketing, Sustainability and Ethics in Business, or Human Resource Management and Employment Relations.

You can also take it as a minor subject within the degree, or study it as part of a conjoint degree.

In your BCom, your Tourism Management courses cover:

  • tourism in New Zealand—the complex structure of the tourism industry, how it operates, and its benefits and impacts
  • core principles of marketing and how they relate to tourism—such as the analysis of consumer behaviour, and a strategic customer focus
  • the principles of running a tourism business and managing destinations sustainably

A Bachelor of Commerce is a three-year degree (full time). Check out the Bachelor of Commerce page for your degree options and to plan a study path.
