Help the world’s wellbeing
Health is a social, cultural, and political issue as well as a medical one. Within this minor, you’ll learn about the roots of inequality and unequal access to healthcare.
Examine what shapes health outcomes across different communities and contexts, and learn Māori and Pacific perspectives on health. Ask why access to healthcare is unequal, whose knowledge informs health systems, and how those systems can be challenged and redesigned.
You’ll find courses that help you think in new ways about global health trends and how health and wellbeing are delivered and experienced. Choose courses that reflect your interests in subject areas like health sciences, sociology, anthropology, public policy, and design.
Choose your study path
The Global Health and Wellbeing minor is unique to the Bachelor of Global Studies (BGS). It’s one of eight BGS minors.

- social, cultural, and political forces shape health outcomes across different communities and contexts
- Māori and Pacific health perspectives challenge and reshape health systems in Aotearoa New Zealand and what perspectives from here bring to global debates
- design and systems thinking can contribute to more equitable health policy and delivery
- different cultural and religious traditions understand death, dying, and wellbeing.
See 'degree and subject requirements' for your course options.
Choose your second minor
You must take at least two minors in your BGS. The Global Health and Wellbeing minor pairs naturally with:
- Human Rights, Justice, and Peace if you’re interested in displacement and justice
- Ethical Leadership and Intercultural Communication, if you’re focused how personal, group, and cultural identity overlaps with leadership style and communication
- Globalisation, Movement, and Change or Environment and Sustainability, if you’re interested in the relationship between political economy, global power, and environmental issues.
These are just suggestions—you're free to pair this minor with any of the others.
